My Food Story – Keawe Aikau Food has always been at the center of my life — not just as something to eat, but as a way to show love, preserve culture, and bring people together. I was raised on real Hawaiian cooking, learning the flavors and values passed down from my grandfather and my dad. In our family, cooking wasn’t just a chore — it was tradition, respect, and connection. But I also wanted to grow as a chef and refine my skills, so I took that passion across the country and received formal culinary training on the East Coast. There, I learned technique, discipline, and how to bring out the best in every ingredient — but no matter how far I went, the flavors of home stayed with me. The Hungry Hawaiian is where all of that comes together — my family’s recipes, my dad’s legacy, and the professional training that helped me elevate it all.
